Heirloom Blessing Dress

Hello!  I was looking for material so I could finish a quilt top that I’m making with my mom, and I went to Fabric Mill in Orem and found it!!  They had one bundle left.  So I bought it!  The ladies there are so sweet.  It’s so nice to be able to go into a store and be greeted by the wonderful ladies that work there.  I really enjoyed talking to them.  If you’

re ever looking for fabric, go to Fabric Mill in Orem.  They are so wonderful!

Last week we worked on the March kitchen towel and open sew.  If you are wanting one or several every month, please let Tracy and I know that way we can double check with our list.  There’

s been so many changes on quantities, so we just want to make sure everyone gets their towels.

This week we will be doing Heirloom Blessing Dress.

Barbara Christensen (who is a really  amazing teacher) will be teaching you pintucks, lace insertion, french seams and so forth.  So if you’

ve been wanting to make your daughter or granddaughter a beautiful blessing dress that you made with lots of love, come join us.

Supply List:

Cotton or cotton/poly batiste

1 ¾ yd 60”

wide

2 ½ yd 45”

wide

This should be enough for dress and slip depending on the length of the skirt.

DMC cording #8 blanc/white (we have at the store)

Top stitch thread, heirloom 100% cotton (we have at the store)

Begin looking for lace. It should have an edge on each side to sew to for insertion, or a wide lace finished on the bottom with top edge unfinished. If you use beading, it should also have an unfinished edge on either side. The amount to buy we will talk about the first class after you have decided how you want to embellish your dress. You can purchase batiste at Stitching corner.

The following week we’re going to celebrate SewWhatEver’s 1st Anniversary!!  It’s going to be a surprise, but here is a hint, the gift for the 1st anniversary is paper.  That’s all I’m telling ya.  There’

ll be a kit fee of $3.50 on top of the class fee.

Supply List:

Thread (white & cream)

Sewing machine

scissors

The class fee is $10.00.  Supplies are not included.  Dinner will be included.

I know that times have been hard but just know that we care about ya and love ya!!  We’

re here for you if you need help or have any questions.

SewWhatEver Friday

Posted by admin On November - 12 - 2009

Friday Nov 20th 5:30-8:30pm
We had a great turnout last Friday.  Shannon was amazing, I heard, and kept everything under control.  I was so sad that I couldn’t be there.  Maxine told me everyone had fun and got a lot done.  If you came that night and made the purse, you’ll have to bring it in so we can see it.  It’s such a cute pattern. This week Ella Simmons will be teaching her very own pattern “Canvas Bag Purse”.  She is going to show us how to turn a canvas bag into a beautiful bag.  Kinda like the frog who gets a kiss from his true love and turns into a charming young prince!
Supply list:
baggy2
1 Canvas bag (she uses the bags like you get at events)

Scraps of fabric to piece outside of bag

Patchwork work, panel, strips, or squares & triangles

Need a total of about ¾ yd

Lining -1/2 yd (this will be enough for the handles if you don’t make the handles from the outside piecing), buttons, ribbon, yo yo’s, anything you want to add as decorations

Basic sewing kit

Sewing machine

Thread

It’ll be from 5:30 to 8:30, dinner is provided, and the class fee is $8.  You will have to bring your own supplies.  We don’t have any kits available.  Don’t forget our Christmas Open House on Dec 2nd.  We’ll have a very yummy dinner, make-and-take project,s and we’ll have quick and easy gift ideas! Put it on your calendar.
